Can I have dots in a column alias?

I'm trying a simple query, but I wish to specify a column alias that contains a dot (for a column name abbreviation)

like

SELECT id, rag_soc as `r.s` FROM "apifdbunica"."ag";

but this fails with

Error: Remote org.teiid.api.exception.query.QueryParserException: TEIID31100 Parsing error: Encountered ", rag_soc as [*]`[*]r.s`" at line 1, column 23.

Lexical error. Character is not a valid token: `

SQLState:  50000

ErrorCode: 0

I tried escaping the dot, using backtick or double quotes delimiter, nothing seems to work

Can this be done?

I wonder how I never tried this before...

The short answer is no - see [TEIID-3439] Add support for aliases with . - JBoss Issue Tracker

It turns out to be pretty thorny to support based upon a lot of early MetaMatrix assumptions that were made about column naming and qualification - starting in the parser which then worked it's way through the code.

Of course I can work around this, and I know there are bigger issues.

It would be nice to have, but it's not a show stopper.
