    Availability of Teiid community version

    skethire

We heard that Teiid community version will be available until 2020 only.  Beyond that there are options to extend until 2023 as a subscription.  After 2023, Teiid open source will not be available anymore.

Is there any truth to this?  Are there any changes that might impact those using the community version?

      Thanks

Teiid community is not the same as JDV.  The community project has and will continue to evolve along with it's inclusion in the Red Hat product mix.

The open source will always be available.  What was the JDV product will be incorporated in various ways into the Red Hat product mix.

If you are following the community your already in a different place than JDV.  JDV was last released off of Teiid 8.12.x, while the community is at 12.0.  You've also hopefully seen that we're defining a cloud offering and have added runtime support for spring boot and thorntail.  So the focus isn't just WildFly/JEE based, rather we are looking to enable as flexible and light-weight virtualization and integration as possible with an emphasis on OpenShift.

What? Do I have to look for another job?

Teiid "Community" will be available as long as there is support from the community members like you and keep showing interest in the project. We have no plans on the sun setting this project that I know of.  As you can see from community activitiles we are further developing the Teiid as a more modular and container ready for future workloads.

Now, Redhat sells subscription on a product called "JBoss Data Virtualization" that is based on Teiid, that product is taken out of the subscription. You may have heard that with above dates, but these are two completely seperate entities.  If you are Redhat customer please reach out to your Redhat account executive on the future plans on JDV product.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Steven and Ramesh for clarification.

I am also relieved to know I don't need to look for a new job
