The Aberdeen Group, an IT industry analyst firm, did an in depth study on the Portal market. Within that work, they discovered some interesting facts and trends about open source Portals and JBoss Portal in particular. Out of a survey of over 150 enterprises using portals, 10% are already deploying an OSS Portal in production with JBoss Portal being the number one mention! Interestingly, Liferay was not mentioned in the significant customer sample size with Jetspeed and eXo beating them out.

JBoss Portal was ranked the least expensive enterprise portal cost of implementation amongst SAP, Oracle, IBM, Broadvision, Microsoft, Sun and BEA. Further, JBoss Portal was a better fit to customer needs and provided superior speed of integration. Finally, JBoss Portal support maturity continues to mature and will accelerate within Red Hat.

All in all, an interesting set of findings from a major Portal study. JBoss's vision and strategy to bring Portal to a much larger market, with lower cost, and better fit to customer's needs, is right on track!
